Robert Kelly Ortberg to Take Reins of Aerospace Giant

Former Rockwell Collins Executive Brings Decades of Industry Experience

Washington, D.C. (July 31, 2023) – Boeing [BA] today announced the appointment of Robert Kelly Ortberg as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective August 1, 2023. Ortberg, who most recently served as President and CEO of Rockwell Collins, will succeed current CEO Dave Calhoun, who will retire after seven years of leadership.

Ortberg, 62, brings over 35 years of experience in the aerospace and defense industries to his new role. As CEO of Rockwell Collins, he oversaw the company's transformation into a global leader in aviation electronics and information systems. Prior to Rockwell Collins, Ortberg held senior executive positions at United Technologies Corporation and Goodrich Corporation.

“Kelly is an exceptional leader with a proven track record of success in our industry,” said Calhoun. “His deep understanding of Boeing's business, his commitment to innovation, and his passion for our customers make him the ideal choice to lead the company into the future.”

Ortberg expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge. “I am honored to join Boeing and to lead such an iconic company with a rich history of innovation and customer focus,” he said. “I look forward to working with the talented Boeing team to build on our strengths, meet the challenges of a rapidly changing industry, and deliver on our mission of connecting people and the world through aerospace.”

Ortberg's appointment comes at a critical time for Boeing, as the company navigates ongoing challenges related to the 737 MAX crashes and its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Analysts believe that Ortberg's experience and strong leadership skills will be instrumental in guiding Boeing through these challenges and positioning it for long-term success.
