Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning's struggles continued on Monday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dunning was pulled from the game after allowing three earned runs on five hits and one walk over four innings. He also struck out four batters.

Manager Bruce Bochy said that Dunning was removed from the game due to a lack of command. “He just didn't have his best stuff tonight,” Bochy said. “He was leaving the ball up in the zone, and the Pirates were taking advantage of it.”

Dunning's outing was a continuation of his recent struggles. He has now allowed 20 earned runs over his last four starts, raising his ERA to 4.91. The Rangers have lost all four of those games.

Despite Dunning's struggles, the Rangers bullpen was able to keep the game close. Right-hander José Ureña pitched four scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits and one walk. He struck out five batters.

The Rangers ultimately lost the game 5-4 in 10 innings, but Ureña's performance was a bright spot. He has now allowed just one earned run over his last 12 appearances, lowering his ERA to 3.00.

The Rangers will look to bounce back on Tuesday night when they face the Pirates in the second game of the series. Martin Perez will start for the Rangers, while JT Brubaker will start for the Pirates.
