Statement on NTSB Findings
Vance issued a statement on the NTSB's findings regarding the East Palestine train derailment, saying that he was “deeply concerned” by the report's findings.
Vance said that the report “raises serious questions about the safety of our nation's railroads” and that he would be “working with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure that we take the necessary steps to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again.”
The NTSB's report found that the derailment was caused by a combination of factors, including a defective wheel bearing, inadequate track maintenance, and a lack of proper safety protocols.
The report also found that the railroad company, Norfolk Southern, had a history of safety violations and that the company had been cited by the NTSB for similar violations in the past.
Vance said that he was “disappointed” by the NTSB's findings and that he believed that Norfolk Southern should be held accountable for the derailment.
Vance said that he would be working with his colleagues in the Senate to introduce legislation that would strengthen railroad safety regulations and that he would be pushing for increased funding for railroad safety inspections.
