Honoring the Victims of Flight 93 on the Eve of the 9/11 Anniversary
Solemn Ceremony at Pennsylvania Capitol
The Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg was the site of a poignant flag ceremony on Saturday, September 10th, 2023, in remembrance of the victims of Flight 93. The ceremony took place on the eve of the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The ceremony featured the raising of a large American flag at the Capitol's Soldiers' Grove, an area dedicated to honoring Pennsylvania's military veterans. The flag was raised by members of the Pennsylvania State Police Honor Guard, and the event was attended by officials from both the state and federal government.
Remembrances and Reflections
Governor Tom Wolf was among the dignitaries who spoke at the ceremony. He paid tribute to the passengers and crew who lost their lives on Flight 93, and he praised their courage and determination. “The people on Flight 93 were ordinary Americans who did an extraordinary thing,” Wolf said. “They stood up to evil, and they fought back.”
Also speaking at the ceremony were U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey. Both senators spoke about the importance of remembering the victims of 9/11 and of continuing to fight against terrorism. “We must never forget the lessons of 9/11,” Casey said. “We must always be vigilant against those who would do us harm.”
The ceremony concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Flight 93 National Memorial Wall, which is located on the grounds of the Capitol. The wall bears the names of the 40 passengers and crew members who died in the crash.
Honoring the Legacy
The flag-raising ceremony at the Pennsylvania Capitol was just one of many events that took place across the country in the days leading up to the 9/11 anniversary. These events served as a reminder of the tragedy of 9/11 and of the importance of honoring the victims and their families.
The legacy of Flight 93 is one of courage, sacrifice, and hope. The passengers and crew of Flight 93 fought back against the terrorists, and their actions saved countless lives. Their story is one that will continue to be told for generations to come.
