Who is Hansi Flick?
Assistant Coach for the German National Team
Hansi Flick is a former professional football player and manager. He was the manager of Bayern Munich from 2019 to 2021, and he led the team to a historic sextuple in 2020, winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, DFL-Supercup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Flick was born in Heidelberg, West Germany, on 24 February 1965. He began his playing career with hometown club SV Sandhausen in 1983. He then moved to Bayern Munich in 1985, where he spent the majority of his playing career. He made over 200 appearances for Bayern Munich, winning seven Bundesliga titles, four DFB-Pokals, and the UEFA Champions League in 1987.
Flick retired from playing in 1990 and began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Bayern Munich in 1995. He then had a spell as manager of 1899 Hoffenheim from 2000 to 2005, before returning to Bayern Munich as assistant coach in 2006.
Manager of Bayern Munich
Flick was appointed manager of Bayern Munich in November 2019, following the sacking of Niko Kovac. He led the team to a historic sextuple in his first season in charge, winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, DFL-Supercup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Flick's success with Bayern Munich was built on his attacking style of play and his ability to get the best out of his players. He also had a strong relationship with the club's hierarchy, which allowed him to build a winning team.
Flick left Bayern Munich in June 2021 and was appointed manager of the German national team in August 2021. He led the team to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 UEFA European Championship.
Assistant Coach for the German National Team
Flick was appointed assistant coach for the German national team in July 2006. He assisted head coach Joachim Low for 12 years, during which time they won the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Flick was responsible for the team's attacking play and set-pieces. He also had a key role in the development of young players.
Flick left the German national team in 2018 to become manager of Bayern Munich.
