Vernon Presley: The Father

Vernon Presley was born on April 10, 1916, in Fulton, Mississippi. He was the son of Jessie D. Presley and Minnie Mae Hood Presley.

Vernon dropped out of school in the eighth grade to work on the family farm. He later worked as a truck driver and a sharecropper.

In 1933, Vernon married Gladys Love Smith. The couple had two children, Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley.

Vernon and Gladys divorced in 1944. Vernon remarried in 1948 to Davada “Dee” Stanley.

Gladys Love Smith was born on April 25, 1912, in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Robert Lee Smith and Ola Mae White Smith.

Gladys dropped out of school in the eighth grade to work in a textile mill.

In 1933, Gladys married Vernon Presley. The couple had two children, Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley.

Gladys died of a heart attack in 1958 at the age of 46.
