Charlie Dimmock: Ground Force hero to health campaigner
Ground Force legend Charlie Dimmock, a popular figure on the TV show, is using her platform to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease (MND), after a close friend was diagnosed with the incurable condition
The TV gardening expert has launched a campaign called #CherishThePresent to raise £1 million for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND), to support people with the condition and fund research to find a cure
Charlie, who is a patron of the MND Association, said she was inspired to launch the campaign after her friend, Anne, was diagnosed with MND in 2020.
MND is a devastating condition that affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis.
There is currently no cure for MND, and most people with the condition will die within two to five years of diagnosis.
Charlie said she was determined to do everything she could to help Anne and others with MND.
“Anne is an amazing woman, and I was devastated when she was diagnosed with MND,” she said.
“I know that there is currently no cure for MND, but I am determined to do everything I can to help Anne and others with the condition.
“I am hoping that by raising awareness of MND and raising funds for research, we can make a difference to the lives of people with the condition.”
Charlie's #CherishThePresent campaign will involve a series of fundraising events throughout the year, including a sponsored walk, a golf day, and a charity ball.
She is also encouraging people to donate to the Motor Neurone Disease Association directly.
