Polish President Duda’s Re-election Campaign Gets Boost from Ruling Party
WARSAW, Poland (Reuters) — Polish President Andrzej Duda’s re-election campaign received a boost on Wednesday when the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party endorsed his candidacy.
The endorsement is a significant development in the race, as PiS is the most popular party in Poland and has a strong base of support among conservative voters.
Duda, a conservative who has been in office since 2015, is seeking a second five-year term. He is facing a challenge from several other candidates, including Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, who is seen as his main rival.
The PiS endorsement is likely to give Duda a significant advantage in the race, as the party has a well-oiled political machine and a large network of supporters.
However, Trzaskowski is also a strong candidate and has been gaining ground in recent polls.
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on June 28.
In a statement, PiS leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski said that the party was endorsing Duda because he is “a strong and experienced leader who has always put the interests of Poland first.”
“Andrzej Duda is the best candidate to lead Poland into the future,” Kaczynski said.
Duda welcomed the endorsement and said that he was “honored” to have the support of PiS.
“I will continue to work hard to make Poland a stronger and more prosperous country,” Duda said.
