Saud Shakeel made an immediate impact on his Test debut, picking up four wickets in England's first innings as Pakistan took control of the first match of the three-Test series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

The left-arm spinner had Zak Crawley caught behind in his second over, and then trapped Ollie Pope lbw, before having Joe Root caught at slip and Ben Stokes caught at short leg to leave England struggling at 92-4.

England Fight Back in Second Innings

Pakistan declared their innings on 579-3, with centuries from Abdullah Shafique (114) and Imam-ul-Haq (121), and a rapid half-century from Mohammad Rizwan (60).

England openers Alex Lees (28) and Zak Crawley (39) put on 65 for the first wicket, but Shakeel struck again to remove Crawley, while Haris Rauf had Lees caught behind to leave England 92-2.

Pakistan Seek Series Lead in Second Test

Root (73) and Ollie Pope (60) steadied the ship with a third-wicket partnership of 113, but Pakistan took regular wickets to keep England in check.

England were eventually bowled out for 281, with Shakeel finishing with figures of 5-86, while Rauf and Mohammad Wasim took two wickets each.

Pakistan will now look to press home their advantage and take a 1-0 lead in the series when the second Test begins in Multan on Friday, 9 December.
