Alex Vesia discusses his one-pitch save and more

Dodgers closer Craig Kimbrel was given a rest day Saturday after pitching in three straight games, including Friday night's save in the series opener against the Giants.

That opened the door for Vesia to close out the Dodgers' 5-2 win over San Francisco, and the left-hander did so with one pitch, getting pinch-hitter Austin Slater to ground out to second base.

“It was awesome,” Vesia said. “I was really excited to get out there and close out a game. It was a lot of fun.”

Vesia has been one of the Dodgers' most reliable relievers this season, with a 2.25 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 40 appearances.

He has also been used in a variety of roles, including as a setup man, a closer, and even a starter.

“I'm just trying to be as versatile as I can and help the team win in any way that I can,” Vesia said.

Vesia's one-pitch save was his first of the season, and it came at a crucial time in the game.

The Dodgers had just taken a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Vesia was able to come in and shut the door on the Giants.

“It was a big spot to be in,” Vesia said. “I just wanted to go out there and throw strikes and get the job done.”

Vesia's one-pitch save was a perfect example of his versatility and his ability to get the job done in any situation.

He is a valuable asset to the Dodgers' bullpen, and he is sure to play a key role in their success this season.
