Severe Storms Knock Out Power for Oklahomans
Thousands Without Power Amidst Devastating Storms
Severe storms have swept across Oklahoma, leaving thousands of residents without power and causing widespread damage. High winds and heavy rain have battered the state, toppling power lines and trees. Utility crews are working tirelessly to restore power, but some areas may remain in the dark for days.
Extensive Damage and Power Outages
The storms have caused extensive damage across the state, including downed trees, damaged homes, and flooded roadways. Many roads have been closed due to debris and downed power lines, making travel hazardous. Emergency responders are urging residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
According to Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E), over 100,000 customers are without power. Other utilities, including Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) and Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), have also reported widespread outages. Utility crews are working around the clock to restore power, but some areas may not have service for several days.
State of Emergency Declared
Governor Kevin Stitt has declared a state of emergency in response to the severe storms. The declaration allows the state to mobilize resources and request federal assistance if necessary. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS) is coordinating response efforts and providing support to affected communities.
Shelters have been opened across the state for residents who have been displaced from their homes due to storm damage. The American Red Cross is also assisting with relief efforts, providing food, water, and shelter to those in need.
