ACCs prepare Cal athletes for national glory

The Pacific Coast Conference championships, often referred to as ACCs, loom in the distance for Cal Cross Country. After finishing fourth at last year’s championships, the Golden Bears are eager to prove their mettle and show the conference what they are made of.

Bettering the competition

While the competition will certainly be tough, with teams like Stanford, Oregon and Washington all vying for the title, Cal is confident that they have what it takes to come out on top.
Highlighted by All-American senior Julia Maxson, the women’s team placed 14th at last year’s NCAA championships. Maxson placed sixth individually at the event, marking the best finish by a Cal woman since 2016 and the first time a Cal runner finished in the top 10 since 2014. Coming off an impressive season, Maxson will look to once again lead the Bears to success with her stellar runs.
The men’s team, who finished 21st at the NCAA championships last year, will also look to make a statement at ACCs. Led by senior twins Thomas Joyce and Colin Peattie, the Bears will need to perform well to earn a spot in the NCAA championships.

The road to nationals

The ACC championships will be held on Nov. 4 at Stanford Golf Course. For the Cal runners, these races represent a chance to prove themselves and earn a spot in the NCAA championships, which will be held on Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
If they can perform well at ACCs and earn a spot in the NCAA championships, the Bears will have a chance to show the nation what they are made of. With a strong team and a lot of potential, Cal is poised to make a run at a national title.
