Damaging Winds Forecasted to Sweep Across Tasmania

Bureau of Meteorology Issues Severe Weather Warning

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a severe weather warning for Tasmania, with damaging winds expected to sweep across the state on Wednesday.

The warning is in place for the entire state, with the strongest winds expected to hit the west and south coasts.

Damaging Wind Gusts Expected

The BoM has forecast wind gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour (km/h) in exposed areas, with gusts of up to 120 km/h possible in some locations.

These winds are strong enough to cause damage to trees, power lines, and buildings.

Stay Informed and Take Precautions

The BoM advises residents to stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and warnings.

People should also take precautions to secure loose objects and stay indoors during the worst of the weather.

Power Outages Possible

The strong winds could also lead to power outages, so residents should be prepared for the possibility of losing power.

TasNetworks, the state's electricity distributor, has advised customers to report any power outages by calling 132 004.

Stay Safe During Severe Weather

The BoM urges residents to stay safe during the severe weather event by:

  • Staying informed about the latest weather forecasts and warnings
  • Taking precautions to secure loose objects
  • Staying indoors during the worst of the weather
  • Reporting any power outages to TasNetworks
