Louis' 37-yard interception return for a touchdown gives Panthers 21-point lead in 2nd quarter
EAST ORANGE, NJ — Kyle Louis, a 2022 graduate of East Orange Campus High School, made a major impact in his first career start for the University of Pittsburgh football team on Saturday, returning an interception 37 yards for a touchdown in the Panthers' 41-3 victory over Syracuse.
With Pitt leading 14-3 late in the second quarter, Louis stepped in front of a pass from Syracuse quarterback Garrett Shrader and raced untouched into the end zone. The pick-six gave the Panthers a 21-3 lead and helped them take control of the game.
Louis, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety, was a standout player for East Orange Campus, earning all-state and all-conference honors during his senior season. He is the first player from East Orange Campus to play for Pitt since running back Darrin Hall, who played for the Panthers from 2015-18.
Pitt is now 4-0 on the season and ranked 25th in the nation. The Panthers will face their toughest test of the season on Saturday when they travel to Knoxville to take on the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers.
