Nebraska Baseball Adds Former Top Prospect, Iowa Western Lefty Braxton Stewart to 2025 Class
Cornhuskers Land Top-Rated Junior College Pitcher
LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Baseball Head Coach Will Bolt announced the addition of Iowa Western Community College left-handed pitcher Braxton Stewart to the 2025 recruiting class on Monday, Aug. 7.
A High-Ceilinged Prospect
Stewart, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound native of Sioux City, Iowa, was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school, ranked as the No. 18 overall prospect and No. 3 left-handed pitcher in the 2022 class by Perfect Game. He committed to the University of Texas but opted to play at Iowa Western instead. At Iowa Western, Stewart has continued to impress, posting a 3.24 ERA and striking out 11.5 batters per nine innings in 14 starts this season. He has also shown good control, walking just 2.3 batters per nine innings.
A Welcome Addition to the Cornhuskers
Stewart is a welcome addition to a Nebraska pitching staff that is expected to lose some key arms to the Major League Baseball Draft next year. He has the potential to be a frontline starter for the Cornhuskers and could make an immediate impact in 2025. “Braxton is a talented young pitcher with a bright future,” Bolt said. “He has a great frame, a live arm, and a competitive spirit. We are excited to have him join our program.”
Stewart Excited to Join the Huskers
Stewart said he is excited to join the Nebraska Baseball program and play for Coach Bolt. “Nebraska is a great program with a rich tradition,” Stewart said. “I am excited to be a part of this team and help the Huskers compete for championships.” Stewart is the second player to commit to Nebraska's 2025 recruiting class, joining outfielder Caden Schubert of Gretna, Nebraska.
