Tom Brady returns to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but injuries to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin limit offense vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a 41-31 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 of the NFL regular season. Quarterback Tom Brady returned to the team after missing the previous game with a shoulder injury, but he was limited by injuries to wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Evans suffered a calf injury in the first quarter and did not return. Godwin suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter and also did not return.
The Buccaneers' offense struggled in the absence of Evans and Godwin. Brady was sacked four times and threw two interceptions. The Buccaneers were also held to just 79 rushing yards.
The Chiefs took advantage of the Buccaneers' injuries and jumped out to a 28-10 lead at halftime. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire scored two touchdowns in the first half, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns.
The Buccaneers rallied in the second half, but they could not overcome the early deficit. Brady threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns, but he was also intercepted twice.
The loss dropped the Buccaneers to 2-2 on the season. The Chiefs improved to 3-1.
The Buccaneers will host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5. The Chiefs will host the Las Vegas Raiders.
