The Los Angeles Clippers finally got their first win of the season with a 113-112 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. Paul George hit the game-winning shot with just 0.8 seconds remaining on the clock.
The Clippers had trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half, but they chipped away at the lead and eventually took the lead with just over two minutes remaining.
George led the Clippers with 28 points, while Kawhi Leonard added 25 points and 11 rebounds. Joel Embiid led the 76ers with 30 points, while James Harden added 20 points and 10 assists.
The win was a much-needed one for the Clippers, who had lost their first two games of the season.
“It was a great win for us,” said Clippers coach Tyronn Lue. “We showed a lot of resilience and toughness. We never gave up, even when we were down by 15.”
Clippers owner Steve Ballmer was also pleased with the win.
“I'm so proud of this team,” said Ballmer. “They showed a lot of heart and determination. This is a big win for us, and it's going to give us a lot of confidence moving forward.”
The Clippers will now head out on a three-game road trip, starting with a game against the Utah Jazz on Friday night.
LeBron James who is George's former teammate with the Lakers was excited to see his friend with a game winner. James said, “PG is a great player and he is one of the hardest workers I know. I knew it was only a matter of time before he started to play well. I'm so happy for him.”
