Imported persimmons with fruit flies to be neutralized in Amur Region
Rospotrebnadzor specialists in the Amur Region detected quarantine pests in a batch of imported persimmons from China
Vessels and containers in which imported persimmons were stored were disinfected, and the remaining fruits were burnt
In Russia, quarantine pests were found in imported persimmons from China. The pest – Oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis) – is extremely dangerous to crops and fruit trees. The quarantine pest was detected by specialists of the Amur region Rosselkhoznadzor Administration during quarantine phytosanitary control of plant products imported from China through the Zabaikalsk – Manchuria (China) automobile checkpoint. The parasite was identified in 14.3 tons of persimmons. The Oriental fruit fly is a multi-eater pest that feeds on fruits and vegetables. The pest is a quarantine object in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. The import of plant products with quarantine pests into Russia is prohibited.
The batch of persimmons was detained, and the vessel and containers were disinfected. The remaining 14.3 tons of fruits were burnt in the presence of officials of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the Amur Region. The phytosanitary certificate for the importation of products to the Russian Federation was canceled. The detection of the Oriental fruit fly as part of phytosanitary control indicates the effectiveness of the phytosanitary measures aimed at preventing the entry and spread of quarantine pests on the territory of the Russian Federation.
