UN chief to support Azerbaijani government efforts for successful COP29
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed his support for the Azerbaijani government's efforts to successfully host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Guterres made the remarks during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on September 16.
“I want to express my full support for the efforts of the government of Azerbaijan to make COP29 a success,” Guterres said. “I am confident that Azerbaijan will host a successful and productive conference.” The Azerbaijani government has set up a dedicated working group to prepare for the event. The working group is responsible for developing a comprehensive plan for the conference, including logistics, security, and outreach.
COP29 is scheduled to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 27 to December 9, 2023. The conference will bring together world leaders, policymakers, and climate experts to discuss and negotiate global climate action.
