Neftchi takes 2-0 lead

In a match played on August 23, 2023, Neftchi Baku hosted Shamakhi FK in the Azerbaijan Premier League.

The home team dominated the match in the early stages, and their efforts were rewarded on 19 minutes when Emin Mahmudov headed home a cross from the left.

Shamakhi searched for an equalizer but were unable to create any clear-cut chances. And the second goal came for the home side on 32 minutes when Rufat İsmayılov finished off a swift counter-attack.

Shamakhi pulls one back

After the break, however, Shamakhi came out with a renewed sense of purpose and began creating more chances.

Their efforts were rewarded with a goal on 52 minutes when Elnur Abdullayev finished off a cross from the left.

Neftchi Baku tried to respond, but Shamakhi held on for the win, which sees them climb to ninth place in the table.

Back in action

Neftchi Baku will be back in action on August 27 when they travel to face Sabah FC.

Shamakhi FK, meanwhile, will host Zira FK on the same day.
