West Ham United F.C. 'accelerating talks with Julen Lopetegui' as managerial search 'reaches crucial stage'
West Ham closing on Lopetegui as new manager
West Ham United are 'accelerating talks' with Julen Lopetegui as their search for a new manager 'reaches a crucial stage', according to reports.
The former Sevilla and Real Madrid boss is believed to be the Hammers' top target to replace David Moyes, who was sacked last month.
Lopetegui has been out of work since he was sacked by Wolves in October 2022, but he is understood to be keen on a return to the Premier League.
Negotiations at advanced stage
According to Sky Sports, negotiations between West Ham and Lopetegui are at an advanced stage, and an agreement could be reached in the coming days.
The report claims that the Hammers are 'confident' of appointing Lopetegui, who they believe is the right man to lead the club forward.
Lopetegui has a good track record in management, having won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2020. He also led Spain to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
Other managers in contention
West Ham have also been linked with a number of other managers, including Sean Dyche, Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto Martinez.
However, Lopetegui is now the clear frontrunner for the job, and his appointment would be a major coup for the Hammers.
Edson Álvarez also on West Ham's radar
In addition to Lopetegui, West Ham are also reportedly interested in signing Edson Álvarez from Ajax.
The 25-year-old Mexican international is a versatile defender who can play at centre-back or in midfield.
Álvarez is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League, and West Ham are believed to be preparing a bid for him.
Everton also interested in Álvarez
However, West Ham are not the only club interested in Álvarez, with Everton also reportedly keen on signing him.
The Toffees are in need of defensive reinforcements, and Álvarez would be a welcome addition to their squad.
It remains to be seen whether West Ham or Everton will be able to sign Álvarez, but he is certainly a player in demand.
