Four local sportswriters weigh in on the much-anticipated Week 4 matchup between the Montana Grizzlies and UC Davis

The Montana Grizzlies will host the No. 4 UC Davis Aggies on Saturday in a pivotal Big Sky Conference matchup at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:04 p.m.

The Grizzlies (2-1) are coming off a 24-23 win over Cal Poly last week, while the Aggies (3-0) are fresh off a 35-16 victory over Northern Arizona.

UC Davis is ranked No. 4 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the FCS Stats Perform Poll.

Here's what four local sportswriters are predicting for Saturday's game:

  • Robb Akey, 406mtsports.com: “The Grizzlies are a better team than they showed last week against Cal Poly. Saturday will be their third straight home game and they can't afford to drop this one. The Aggies are a tough opponent, but I like Montana's chances of winning a close one.”
  • Sean Kramer, Missoulian: “This is a huge game for both teams. The Grizzlies need to win to stay in the race for the Big Sky title. The Aggies need to win to keep their FCS playoff hopes alive. I think Montana will win a close one, but it will be a battle.”
  • Eric Williams, Billings Gazette: “The Grizzlies have a lot of talent, but they need to find a way to be more consistent. They can't afford to make the same mistakes they made against Cal Poly. If they can play a clean game, they have a good chance of beating UC Davis.”
  • Bruce Pascoe, Bozeman Daily Chronicle: “The Grizzlies are a talented team, but they need to find a way to play with more passion and intensity. They can't let the Aggies bully them around. If they can match UC Davis's physicality, they have a good chance of winning.”
