Manchester United Thrash Leicester City 3-0
Red Devils Move Into Top Four With Emphatic Victory
Goals from Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri Seal Comfortable Triumph
Manchester United produced a dominant performance to thrash Leicester City 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, moving into the Premier League top four in emphatic style. Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for the Red Devils in the 25th minute, firing home a low drive from just inside the penalty area. Jadon Sancho doubled the lead just five minutes later, curling a sumptuous effort into the top corner from the edge of the box. Facundo Pellistri put the icing on the cake for United in the 61st minute, tapping home from close range after a fine cross from Luke Shaw. The Uruguayan winger has now scored in each of his last three appearances for the club. The victory was United's third in a row in all competitions, and their first clean sheet in the Premier League since the opening weekend of the season. It was also Leicester's first defeat in six matches, and leaves them 13th in the table. United manager Erik ten Hag was delighted with his team's performance, saying: “I'm very happy with the result and the performance. We played with a lot of intensity and quality, and we created a lot of chances. “We were clinical in front of goal, and we defended well. It was a complete performance.” Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers was disappointed with his team's display, saying: “We were second best all over the pitch today. We didn't create enough chances, and we didn't defend well enough. “We need to be better. We need to show more quality and more intensity.” United will now face Barcelona in the Europa League knockout play-off round on Thursday, before returning to Premier League action against Leeds United next Sunday. Leicester will host Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.
