Balakovo airport: Russia reveals visual appearance
Construction to begin quarter two of 2024, completion estimates 2026
New airport will increase capacity and improve connectivity
Rosaviatsia, Russia’s federal air transport agency, has released renderings of the future Balakovo airport in Saratov Oblast. The new airport is expected to replace the existing Balakovo Airport, which is located within the city limits and has limited capacity.
The new airport will be located 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of Balakovo city centre. It will have a 2,400-meter (7,874-foot) runway and a terminal with capacity for 300 passengers per hour.
The new airport is expected to open in 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2024.
The new airport is expected to boost tourism and economic development in the Balakovo region and the Saratov Oblast. It will provide better connectivity to Moscow and other major cities in Russia.
The project to build a new airport in Balakovo was initiated by the government of the Saratov Oblast. The total cost of the project is estimated to be 12 billion rubles (US$163 million).
Rosaviatsia has already approved the design of the new airport. The next step is to obtain building permits and to secure financing for the project.
The construction of the new airport is expected to create jobs and boost the local economy. It will also improve connectivity and safety for air travel in the Balakovo region.
