Carlos Sainz: Ferrari 'In the Fight for the Title Until the Very End'
Sainz confident of Ferrari's title chances
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz believes the Italian side can remain in contention for the Formula 1 world championship until the final race of the 2023 season.
Sainz's optimism comes despite Ferrari enduring a difficult start to the new campaign, with the team yet to record a victory in the opening four races.
Leclerc's early season struggles and Sainz's strong start
Sainz has outperformed teammate Charles Leclerc in the standings so far this season, with the Spaniard currently fourth in the drivers' championship, 19 points ahead of Leclerc.
Leclerc has endured a frustrating start to the campaign, with the Monegasque driver crashing out of the lead while running second in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and suffering a mechanical issue in the Australian Grand Prix.
Sainz: Ferrari have made progress
However, Sainz is confident that Ferrari have made progress with their car since the start of the season and believes the team can challenge Red Bull and Mercedes for the title.
“I think we've made some good progress,” Sainz said. “The car is getting better and better. We're understanding it more and more.
“I think we can still be in the fight for the title until the very end,” Sainz added.
Ferrari's next challenge: The Spanish Grand Prix
Ferrari's next challenge will be the Spanish Grand Prix, which takes place on May 22. The race will be held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, a track where Ferrari has a strong record.
Sainz will be hoping to continue his good form at the Spanish Grand Prix and help Ferrari close the gap to Red Bull and Mercedes in the championship standings.
