Carols Alcaraz Beats Alexander Zverev To Seal Nitto ATP Finals Spot

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev at the Paris Masters on Thursday, securing his place at the Nitto ATP Finals.

The 19-year-old Spaniard won 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 38 minutes to reach the quarter-finals in Paris and stay in the hunt for a maiden Masters 1000 title.

Alcaraz's victory also means he has now qualified for the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, Italy. He joins Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud in the eight-man field.

Alcaraz's Victory Keeps Him In Contention For Year-End No. 1

The victory also keeps Alcaraz in contention for the year-end No. 1 ranking. He is currently second in the ATP Rankings, behind Nadal, but could leapfrog the Spaniard if he wins the Paris Masters and Nadal does not reach the final.

Alcaraz will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals on Friday. The Canadian defeated Andrey Rublev in three sets earlier on Thursday.
