‘I felt robbed’… Jon Jones explains why he was left ‘disappointed’ after winning UFC title fight in just 124 seconds
Jon Jones says he feels “robbed” after winning his UFC title fight in just 124 seconds.
The former light-heavyweight champion made his long-awaited heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 on Saturday night.
After an even start to the fight, Jones managed to take Gane down and secure a rear-naked choke, forcing him to tap out 2:04 into the first round.
However, despite the victory, Jones admitted he was not happy with the performance.
“I felt like I was robbed,”
Jones said at the post-fight press conference.
“I felt like I could have done so much more. I felt like I could have put on a better show for the fans and for myself.
“I just felt like I didn't do enough to really earn this win.”
Jones went on to explain that he was hoping for a longer fight that would have allowed him to showcase his skills more fully.
“I wanted to go out there and put on a show,” he said.
“I wanted to show the world that I'm still the best. And I just didn't get a chance to do that tonight.”
Despite his disappointment, Jones said he is still proud to be the UFC heavyweight champion.
“I'm not going to let this get me down,” he said.
“I'm going to go back to the gym and work even harder.
“I'm going to come back stronger than ever and I'm going to show the world that I'm the best heavyweight in the world.”
