Dramatic footage captures shelves collapsing as tremor hits

A powerful earthquake has struck eastern Turkey, killing at least 22 people and injuring hundreds more. The quake, which had a magnitude of 6.8, struck the province of Elazig on Friday morning, causing widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Dramatic footage captured by a security camera inside a local store shows the moment the earthquake hit. The video shows shelves collapsing and items flying off the shelves as the ground shakes violently. The store's owner, who was behind the counter at the time, can be seen desperately trying to hold on as the quake rocks the building.

The earthquake was felt across eastern Turkey and as far away as neighboring Syria. It caused widespread damage to buildings, including the collapse of several apartment buildings. Hundreds of people were injured and at least 22 were killed, according to Turkish officials.

Rescue efforts underway

Rescue workers are currently searching through the rubble of collapsed buildings for survivors. The Turkish government has deployed emergency teams to the affected area to assist with the rescue efforts. International aid organizations are also sending assistance to Turkey.

The earthquake is the deadliest to hit Turkey in years. In 2011, a powerful earthquake in eastern Turkey killed more than 500 people.
