Phil Parkinson reflects on ‘early’ League One promotion race
Phil Parkinson is expecting a tough fight in League One this season as the promotion race hots up.
The Wrexham boss has seen his side make an impressive start to the campaign, winning three of their opening five games.
That has seen them climb to fourth in the table, just two points behind leaders Ipswich Town.
But Parkinson is under no illusions about the size of the task facing his team.
Parkinson said:
“It's a tough league. There are some big clubs in this division and it's going to be a competitive season.
“We've made a decent start, but there is still a long way to go and we need to keep pushing ourselves.
“We're aiming for promotion, but we know it's not going to be easy.”
Wrexham are one of a number of teams who are expected to be in the promotion shake-up this season.
Others who are likely to be challenging include Ipswich, Portsmouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanderers.
Parkinson knows that his team will have to be at their best to compete with those sides.
He said:
“We're under no illusions about the challenge ahead of us. We know that we're going to have to be consistent and we're going to have to be at our best every week.
“But we're confident in our ability and we believe that we can achieve our goals.”
Wrexham will be back in action on Saturday when they host Exeter City at the Racecourse Ground.
