On March 8, 2023, at about 04:40 a.m., a fire broke out in a residential building on Karl Marx Street in Zalari, Irkutsk region. The fire was extinguished by fire brigades at 05:16 a.m.

As a result of the fire, the bodies of a 62-year-old pensioner and her 3-year-old grandson were found at the scene. According to preliminary data, the fire started in the kitchen. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Check back for updates as they become available.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the fact of a fire in the Zalari region, as a result of which a pensioner and her grandson died. The case was opened under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Causing death by negligence.”
