Spain U21 coach offers latest news on injured duo

Baena out of action for 10 days, Zubimendi's return date uncertain

Spain U21 coach Luis de la Fuente has provided injury updates on Jordi Baena and Martin Zubimendi, who missed the team's recent friendly against Romania. Baena, who plays for Villarreal, has been ruled out for around 10 days with a muscle injury. The 20-year-old forward was forced off during Villarreal's La Liga match against Getafe on 22 March. Zubimendi, who plays for Real Sociedad, is also nursing a muscle injury but his return date is uncertain. The 23-year-old midfielder has been out of action since Sociedad's Europa League match against Manchester United on 14 March. De la Fuente said he is hopeful that both players will be fit for Spain U21's upcoming European Championship qualifiers in June. “Baena has a muscle injury that will keep him out for around 10 days,” De la Fuente said. “Zubimendi's injury is a bit more serious and we don't know when he will be back. “We are hopeful that both players will be fit for the European Championship qualifiers in June, but we will have to wait and see how they recover.” Spain U21 are due to face Lithuania and Slovakia in their opening two qualifiers on 8 and 12 June respectively.
