Cryptocurrency Back on Congress' Agenda
Senate Hearing Next Week
Washington, D.C. – Cryptocurrency is back on the agenda in Congress again next week. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday, March 14, at 10:00 AM EST.
The hearing, titled “Cryptocurrencies: What Are They and Why Are They Mattering to Main Street?”, will examine the growing use of cryptocurrencies, the risks and opportunities they pose, and the need for regulation.
“Cryptocurrencies are a new and rapidly evolving asset class that has the potential to transform the way we think about money and finance,” said Brown in a statement. “This hearing will help us to better understand the risks and opportunities associated with cryptocurrencies, and to develop a regulatory framework that protects consumers and promotes innovation.”
The hearing will feature testimony from a variety of experts, including cryptocurrency industry leaders, academics, and government officials.
