First Case Confirmed in Washington County Blood Donor

The first cases of West Nile virus activity have been detected in Washington and Chippewa Counties in the state of Washington. The first confirmed case was a blood donor from Washington County. West Nile Virus Disease

West Nile is a nationally notifiable condition. So far, seven human cases of West Nile infection have been reported in Harris County, Texas, about one-sixth of the total number of cases reported in the state. Nine cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed so far this year, and disease experts say the virus appears to be more widespread than usual.

First Detection in Yakima County

The first West Nile virus detection in Washington state this year came in July in Yakima County, near the border of Oregon.
