Breaking News: Texas Landscaper Suffers Heart Attack-Like Symptoms from Overhydration

Houston, Texas – August 17, 2023

74-Year-Old John Putnam Rushed to Hospital After Drinking Excessive Water While Working Outdoors

A 74-year-old Texas man is recovering in the hospital after suffering heart attack-like symptoms caused by overhydration. John Putnam was working as a landscaper on a day when temperatures reached a staggering 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to witnesses, Putnam began experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath after drinking several cups of water in a relatively short period of time. Paramedics were called to the scene and rushed him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with an electrolyte imbalance caused by water toxicity.

Doctors are reminding the public that while it is important to stay hydrated, especially in hot weather, drinking too much water can be hazardous. When the body takes in more water than it can process, it can lead to a dangerous condition known as hyponatremia, which occurs when the sodium levels in the blood become dangerously diluted.
